OVERVIEW
My name is Rolf Hendriks, and I am a DC area mobile software developer / contractor who creates highly polished iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad user experiences.
Status: I am currently NOT available to take on additional work, and will not be available in the foreseeable future.
What I have to Offer:
- Over 6 years experience making software for PC, iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, XBox, and PS3
- Hands-on experience with the entire iPhone app development experience - market research, setting up a development environment, designing and developing an app, creating graphic art, conducting usability tests, deploying an app to your iPhone and the app store, performing updates, customer support, and translating an app into other languages.
- Everything I make follows the No Fluff Design Method, which means that you will get a clean and clutter-free user experience where every part of the design has a usability purpose. This approach also ensures that you get basic results quickly and have a workable product throughout most of the development process.
- I breathe life into user interfaces by using a variety of custom animations and leveraging graphic programming skills I have picked up from the game industry. The result is a uniquely fluid user experience similar to that of ZipTunes, Party Game Timer, or the apps on which I have done contract work.
- I pay exceptional attention to details for graphical and user interaction issues such as consistency with Apple's human interface guidelines, accurate touch detection and response, minimizing the amount of onscreen buttons and amount of work required for basic tasks, directing the user's focus and attention to the task at hand and away from distractions, applying consistent conventions for screen layouts and transitions and visual styles, etc.
- I have in-depth understanding of Objective C, C++, UIKit, Core Animation, OpenGL, SQLite, Core Data, and related mobile development technologies
- I write solid, high performance code that is well commented and easy to maintain
What I am looking for:
- DC area or telecommute-friendly contract work for mobile development. I am not seeking to relocate or become an employee, but am willing to travel
- Telecommute or walking distance to DC Metro Red Line preferred
- Apps with a rich user experience preferred, as my strongest skill is making custom user interfaces and custom animations
- Education, games, or navigation apps preferred
- Short term or part-time work preferred, as I would like to find more time to develop my own apps and learn other platforms
Feel free to contact me if you would like me to help develop your app.
EXAMPLES
You can find out much more about myself and my work by browsing this site. But for now, here is a very brief overview of what I do
ZipTunes is a music app I created for your iPhone, and serves as alternative to the built-in music player. ZipTunes is especially good at making playlists quickly, and offers a one of a kind user interface and user experience.
This is my first commercial iPhone app. I needed a random countdown timer to replace a timer from a word game. But when I could not find such a timer on the app store, this app was born.
Windows + Game Console Development
Before I made iPhone apps, I also made or helped out with several Windows and game applications. Here are some of the highlights:
